11 Mar Why Great Content is the Key to Great SEO
As providers of SEO services in Florida, we are often asked, “What’s the secret to ranking high with good SEO?”
There is no one secret, but if we had to narrow it down to just one major factor, we’d say that great SEO starts and ends with great content.
What makes for great content? And what do we mean by content, exactly?
Content consists of the text, images, and videos (don’t forget about links) that are on your pages. Content can be a page, or an article, or a blog post. And while much of it has to be written (especially alt tags for images) the more varied your content, the better.
Great content is marked by a few characteristics. It is:
- Easy to read
- Easy to find
- Filled with one focus keyword (used appropriately and not excessively)
- Engaging and informative
- Long enough (over 300 words at a minimum)
- Diverse (has images/video in addition to text)
- Linked up appropriately (contains internal and external links with anchor text)
But really, what makes for great content is content that people actually want to read and consume and link to. That content is what tends to rank.
It’s not as hard as you think to create this type of content. Let’s say you’re a real estate agent. You can create an infographic about the latest market report, write a 500-word post to go along with it, throw in some links to other pages on your website (complete with anchor text), and make it as attractive as possible.
If you chose a good keyword – one that is searched often but isn’t too competitive – you have a chance of having that page rank for that keyword.
Think about what you’d like to see if you were in the shoes of your consumer, and go from there. If it’d interest you, chances are it’d interest your reader.
