29 Aug 3 Key Ways to Improve Your Website’s Bounce Rate
In the past, we’ve written a few blogs about bounce rate—what it is, why it’s important and how it impacts search engine optimization (SEO). If you haven’t read those posts, that’s ok. We’ll take a few moments to recap.
Bounce rate is how long people stay on a certain page on your website. According Google Analytics, a bounce rate of under 40% is deemed to be excellent, whereas a bounce rate of 70% is terrible. So why is this important? The goal of search engines is to provide people with the best results possible. If someone clicks on a link and the webpage it points to doesn’t have relevant content, they’re not going to stay on that page very long.
How long someone stays on a web page is extremely important to the search engine algorithm. If your bounce rate is terrible, your website ranking is going to plunge.
The good news is that if your bounce rate is higher than you’d like, there are things you can do to improve it.
Improve your content
Writing web content isn’t just about throwing words on a page—it’s a critical component of your digital marketing plan. Your content needs to be thoughtful, well written and without grammatical errors. It’s also worth noting that short, concise paragraphs are far better choice than long bulky ones. The subject matter should be easy to read, conversational and relevant.
For example, if you own a furniture store, your content (and blogs) should relate to your industry. If you have a ton of posts about how to bake the perfect apple pie and/or how to prepare for a Labor Day party, you’re not doing yourself any favors.
Avoid popups at all cost
Data suggests that more than 70% of Internet users find popups to be annoying. If your website has a lot of them, it’s likely having a negative impact on your bounce rate. Searchers that click on a website that provides a poor user experience aren’t going to stay on that website for long. Just say “no” to popups.
Consult with an expert
There are several things that can have a negative impact on your bounce rate, and if your website is performing poorly, the best thing for you to do is to speak with a digital marketing expert. Call WBN Marketing today to schedule a consult and receive a free search engine optimization (SEO) report.
