4 Essential Features You Need to Have for Your Website

In our last blog, we talked about how your website is often how your business will be introduced to potential customers. First impressions are everything- regardless as to whether they happen online or in real life.

For this post, we wanted to talk about some of the key things you’ll need to ensure your first impression is as successful as possible.

A cohesive design

When people visit your website, it needs to be pleasing to the eyes. For example, if you’re walking down the street and you see a man in a grey suit with a white shirt, blue tie and matching pocket square, most people would agree that type of look “works.”

On the other hand, if that same man was wearing two different shoes, torn pants, a plaid button-down shirt and rainbow suspenders—well, that’s going to be a different story.

For a website to have a “cohesive” look, you’ll want to keep it simple. You don’t want to mix and match tons of colors, fonts and/or font sizes. If your website is too busy, users won’t know where to look (or click) first.

Mobile friendly websites are a must

It’s estimated that by the end of last year, roughly half of online searches were initiated on a mobile device. It’s true- people are constantly looking for businesses, restaurants and things to do, “on the fly.”

Mobile optimization will help you accomplish a few important things. First, it will make sure that your website’s layout matches what a smartphone / tablet or smartwatch can relay. (Ie: if your website is one big square peg, you’re going to have a hard time getting its content to flow into a small circular hole.)

Second- websites that aren’t optimized for mobile searches are having their SEO ranking dinged. If you’re already optimized for mobile- fantastic. If not- put that at the top of your “things to do” list for this month.

Make sure your contact info is easy to find

It doesn’t matter if you have the best and greatest website on the planet. If your customers don’t know how to find you or where to find you, you’re not doing yourself any favors.

Make sure your all of your contact information (such as your address, email address, phone number and social media page links) is easy to find.
