The realm of digital marketing is constantly evolving- which means that digital marketing terms that were common 10 or 15 years ago may not be as common today. For this blog post we wanted to bring you up to speed on some of what’s current, what’s stale, and what’s likely on deck for the future.
Keyword stuffing
Keyword stuffing is not something that’s served with Thanksgiving dinner. Instead, it refers to the long-defunct process of stuffing as many keywords onto a webpage as possible. Once upon a time, websites that used this strategy were rewarded with coveted first-page SEO rankings, but as time progressed, the algorithms began to penalize companies that did this. Why? Because when you stumble upon a page that’s overly stuffed with keywords, reading that content is about as appealing as drinking a big glass of orange juice after brushing your teeth. Suffice to say, keyword stuffing is out.
Buyer persona
If you don’t know who your customers are, you’re going to have a hard time reaching them. In the modern world, digital marketing allows companies to not only understand the who, what, where, why and when of the people who are buying their products, it also helps them develop (and understand) their buyer persona. Simply stated, this is the research-based profile of the consumers that are most likely to buy your product. For example, if you sell a high-end stroller, you might come to realize that your most sought-after buyer persona are young couples in metropolitan areas who have a combined household income of more than $175,000 per year. Remember- the more you know about your customers, the better you’ll be able to craft your marketing campaigns.
Social media bots
Social media bots automate processes on that particular social media channel, and they can often help generate leads. For example, a cosmetic dentist that we know recently incorporated bots into his Facebook and Instagram pages. Now, every time someone likes one of his posts, the bots automatically send that person a message. This feature has helped him both improve his communication with his clients and grow his client base.
