Throughout 2017, we continued seeing changes in Google’s algorithms. As a result, SEO (search engine optimization) has continued to change, evolve, and grow as an extremely important practice in online marketing. What do we need to be watching for as we enter the second quarter of 2018, and what do we need to keep in mind as we continue to see trends and updates throughout the remainder of the year and into the future?
Quality Over Quantity.
Google is moving to emphasize quality websites and quality updates over quantity. Essentially, rather than try to have to learn so much new information that you’re overloading yourself, now you’re able to learn new information about making your site better in order to improve the quality of your website and increase traffic. Visitors to your site will see the changes with each visit.
Users’ experience has become very important in the last year. Rather than the website just providing information, site designers want visitors to be able to feel as though they are immersed in the websites they visit so that they learn something from their experience. It shouldn’t just be information on a page, but rather helping customers feel as though they are immersed in a user experience so that they are also a part of the product site designers are selling.
Google has totally taken over indexing your website. If you noticed indexes changing last year, there’s a reason. Google indexes sites one week, and then drops others the next, so they are carefully sculpting users’ experiences and sites based on that indexing. Essentially, it’s best to have a few strong pages on a website rather than a handful of weak ones just so that you have extra space for advertisers.
So, Google is watching, they are indexing, and they are carefully trimming the fat from websites so users have a more meaningful experience when they visit websites. SEO is becoming more and more important because of this, and the key factor moving forward into the next quarter of 2018.
