02 Sep What You Need to Know About YouTube Advertising
We can all agree that social media has fundamentally changed how society receives, processes and shares information. For example—some people use Facebook as their primary news source. Others use platforms such as TikTok for entertainment.
Pinterest is where a lot of people get their recipes and DIY project ideas, and YouTube, well, YouTube essentially has everything. Do you want to view an old Ted Talk? You can watch it on YouTube. Do you need a visual tutorial on how to replace your car’s rear-view mirror? You can likely find a few dozen videos about it on YouTube.
The platform also has some impressive stats.
In mid-August, it was reported that roughly 300 hours of new video are uploaded to YouTube every 60 seconds. (Which means that 18,000 hours of new video is being uploaded every hour.) Roughly 1,300,000,000 people use YouTube, and almost 5 billion videos are watched each and every day.
The bottom line is this- regardless as to whether you spend time on YouTube, there is a really, really good chance a chunk of your customer base is spending time on the platform. Suffice to say, if you are not deploying YouTube ads, you might want to give it some thought.
How does it work?
YouTube ads come in a few different flavors. Banner ads are, of course, an option, as are ads that display before a video starts. You can also opt for pop up ads that appear within various videos.
One of the key benefits of YouTube advertising is that you are only charged when someone shows interest in your ad. For example, let us say you place a 30 second video ad at the start of a cooking tutorial. Users have the option of viewing your ad or skipping it after 5 seconds. If they skip- you are not charged. If they watch it through to the end? That is when you get billed.
If you think YouTube ads are only for multi-million-dollar national brands, you are wrong. In the past 24 months, the number of small to medium sized business that are advertising on YouTube—has doubled.
