Examining Nuzzel, a New Social Media News Service

We all like seeing what all of our connections are saying on social media. We’re also more likely to read stories if they’re shared by our friends, which has business ramifications if you can engage with your audience and have them share your stories more often.

Previously, it was hard to connect all of the social media platforms – particularly Facebook and Twitter – together and see what is popular with your friends on both platforms. You’d have to be logged in to both, which means a business has to track both to see what is trending and what is being said.

Now, though, a new service called Nuzzel promises to offer a way to curate what people are following and talking about across Facebook and Twitter.

Nuzzel was launched in 2012 but only recently became open to the public. It pulls content that is being shared by your friends; the more often a story is shared, the higher on your feed it will appear.

What are the business implications of this? Well, for starters, you can more readily see what is being discussed across the world’s most popular social media platforms. But more importantly, it potentially gives your content more reach and exposure if people catch on to Nuzzel and start using it because your content could more easily appear on someone else’s feed.

Nuzzel isn’t a social media network, so there’s no need to worry about having to become engaged on yet another platform. Instead, it’s a news service that could keep you in the loop and help spread your message across your audience.

We’ll see how popular Nuzzel becomes, but they’re off to a good start. Before too long, people could be turning to it as a key source for their social media news – which means you’ll need to start paying attention to it.
