Key Characteristics of a Great Website

Maybe you’re about to start a business and you’re in the early phases of planning a website. Or, maybe you have an existing website that’s dated and is in dire need of an update. Regardless as to why you’re wanting to hire a web designer, there are a few features that your website should possess.

It should be user friendly

Have you ever visited a website only to realize that you couldn’t find the company’s contact info? If happens more than you think. If you want your customers to be able to find you, don’t bury your email address, street address or phone number deep within your website.

It should also be easy to navigate.

It’s not embedded with auto-play music or video

There are lots of people who browse the ‘net while they’re at work. If John Smith decides he wants to buy some flowers for his wife, and he wants to browse some local florist websites in between meetings, he’s not going to want to land on a website that blasts music or video sounds through his computer’s speakers.

It’s optimized for mobile

More and more people are using their mobile devices to browse the web. As such, you’ll want to make sure your website has a responsive design. Websites that have this know whether a user is accessing it from a laptop, smartphone or tablet, and they adjust accordingly.  On the other hand, websites that lack a responsive design cannot be easily viewed from a handheld device. Visually, it’s like trying to shove a square peg through a round hole.

If you’re not sure if your site is mobile friendly, you can check this by pulling out your smart phone and visiting your company’s URL.)

Your content has been grammar and spell checked

A website is often the first impression that customers have of a business. If your content is ridden with spelling and/or grammatical errors, it’s not doing you any favors.

It loads quickly

Have you ever tried to stream a video that took forever to load? Have you ever gotten frustrated when you try to view an on-demand show on your smart-tv, because content just won’t stop buffering?

If your website is slow to load, there’s a good chance that our customers aren’t going to hang out until it does.
