More Digital Marketing Terms You Should Know in 2022

In our last post, we talked about some key digital marketing terms that you should familiarize yourself with. This week, we wanted to add to that list.

Unlike traditional forms of marketing (i.e., print and radio ads), digital marketing efforts are trackable. Not only does online marketing allow you to know how well a campaign is doing, analytics allow you to know how many people have seen your ads, clicked on your ads, and how much revenue an ad campaign has generated. When it comes to internet marketing, analytics are everything.

Bounce rate

Let’s imagine that you own a boutique clothing store, and that since you know a little bit about digital marketing, you’ve decided to launch a blog to help with your website’s SEO. However, instead of blogging about the latest fashion trends, you decide to blog about local events within the community. If users find your blog and they click away from your website without taking time to browse your store (because your blog has nothing to do with your business model), this can harm your SEO. Why? Because you’ll have a high “bounce” rate.  The longer users stay on your website, the lower your bounce rate will be. Websites that have low bounce rates rank better.

Content marketing

Blogs are good, but if you can develop relationships with online newspapers, magazines, or local print publications (and the editors allow you to submit a monthly column on key topics within your industry), this can help establish you as an authority in your field. For example, if you own a furniture store, you could write about the latest interior design trends. Or, if you own a moving company, you could write articles about how to prepare for moves during various times of the year.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Simply stated, SEO is how well your website ranks (organically) when someone searches for your product or business. If you don’t rank on page one, chances are, your business is leaving tons of money on the table. Why? Because if potential customers don’t know you exist, they’re not going to spend their money at your place of business. You should also know that SEO isn’t a one-shot process- the things that can help (and harm) your website’s ranking change constantly.
